Regular content creation is necessary for your website, but it takes time to produce quality content; and especially today, in the time of content marketing, creating backlinks for your website also requires plenty of content. That’s a lot of content creation, and a lot of time spent on it!
Now, it’s a fantastic thing to be able to generate valuable backlinks, and even better to have quality articles on your website. But after you’ve spent hours or days to research and write one really quality piece, don’t you feel sometimes that it’s a shame you can’t use it to squeeze more value out of it – to publish it somewhere else, or to create more backlinks?
Well, there are ways to make that one piece of content work harder and generate more quality backlinks. No, we’re not talking about re-publishing and duplicate content issues: we’re talking about re-shaping an article into another form that will be unique and that will keep the quality of the original article at the same time.
Make a Press Release
With a little editing you can turn your article into a press release and submit it to PR distribution websites – providing you with another set of backlinks. Of course, there are rules to it, but it’s worth the effort to learn and implement them. Bigger distribution websites usually charge for using their service, but there are a lot of good ones that offer PR distribution for free.
Make a slideshow
Turn your article into a Power Point presentation and publish it on SlideShare (or some other online presentation tool). It’s a great way of visually presenting the content you’ve already made in textual form, and you can add transcription to your presentation to make it more search-engine-friendly.
Make an image representation
This requires a bit more designer skills, but if you don’t have a team of designers, you can use online services like Piktochart, Visual.ly, or Inkscape to turn your content into an infographic, or some other kind of image representation. Tell a story or use it to visually present data, depending on the type of content you have. Then you can submit them to infographic sites to get backlinks from them, or share them on Pinterest.
Make a podcast
By simply reading your article (or paying someone to do so) out loud and recording it, you’ve just turned it into another content. Then submit it to the podcast websites, and you’ll get yourself a nice and valuable backlink (Google loves multimedia content), and probably one that your competition doesn’t have. Here’s a list of podcast directories you may want to check out.
Make a video
You can use the presentation and the podcast you’ve already made, or make a completely new concept for the video and upload it to YouTube. There are online services that will do that for you if you don’t want to do it yourself, but it really isn’t that hard to do.
Pro tip: After you make and publish the different types of multimedia content, embed what you can on your website: it will make your readers very happy, and Google will adore you.
Make a PDF
Probably the easiest way to re-shape the existing content is to turn the article into a PDF file – it requires just a bit of editing. Then upload it to DocStock and other document-type websites. Of course, include a hyperlink to your website before uploading it.
Be practical: there’s no need to create new content all the time, and it’s interesting to try some forms other than articles. Most of those links have value because of the authority of the domain you’re publishing on, but often times, the documents you share will count for more than backlinks for SEO – they are able to drive massive amounts of traffic, so you may want to try to make them as good as you can.
