Opting for an SEO Career During Recession

The last couple of years, the world’s economy has seen a roller coaster ride, caused by recession and financial meltdown. Businesses have been badly hampered by these global recessions. People have lost their jobs. Right now, I believe, we are going through another recession; fortunately, the impact doesn’t seem to be as serious as the previous one.

There are significant damages seen coming via this ongoing recession, but there are also ways to survive. Thanks to the World Wide Web, people have found a number of opportunities to sustain their careers and livelihoods despite the bad time. These include opportunities in the SEO or search engine optimization industry.

Your expectations from an SEO career should be realistic. Your success may very well depend on the clients that you have: if they belong to recession-affected industries like that for financial services, real estate, and automobiles, don’t be surprised if you don’t get a lot of business or a big budget.

Keep yourself open to working with other industries. Despite the crises, there are a number of sectors that have remained largely unaffected; find them and work with them to grow your SEO business.

Try to gain as much experience as you can. While one may argue that SEO careers are recession-proof, it’s still important to work hard and work as if everyday is your last day on the job. Read up. Spend lots of time doing things that help your clients achieve their business goals. Try new strategies and always look for ways to improve.

Provide value to your clients. There’s no use offering services if these services don’t succeed in delivering the ROI your clients are looking for. Certainly, SEO and Internet marketing are cheaper solutions compared to the traditional marketing and advertising solutions like TV, radio, and print. But in this time of recession, distinguish yourself by giving your clients the bang for every buck spent. When they get positive results, they’ll likely plan campaigns that are more aggressive, and which will prove to be more rewarding for you, too.

SEO indeed is an integral part of the business world today. Thanks to the power of the Internet and the massive amounts of information on the Web, SEO is here for the long run.

This is a great post! An SEO career is a great choice for today’s generation. Think about how many companies or small businesses and self-promotion are starting up since people are getting unemployed at such high-rates! They have no job, so they have no choice but to become self employed and try to boost up their business. Great idea and great tips!

SEO is not an easy job. There are things you need to learn before you master this kind of work. Although you will find this very interesting as you go on.
