Applying What TV Pitchmen Do In Your Online Business

It is impossible to actually scream through your content into your readers’ ears to try to sell them something – but that kind of effect is exactly what you want to try to accomplish every time you are writing a persuasive article for your website.

This is the approach that television pitchmen like Billy Mays took, and even though you would always hear a lot of people talking about how they disliked the fact that all he ever did was scream through the TV, there were always still tons of people who picked up the phone and ordered the product he was selling.

Billy Mays was one of the greatest TV pitchmen of all time, and there is much to learn from him. He was able to convince people to buy a product they never before heard of – all in a short two-minute video. Products that people probably didn’t need and products that, once they purchased it, they probably rarely ever used.

Here is a list of things that we can learn from TV pitchmen like Billy Mays – especially when writing for the Web, marketing a product or service online, or developing an e-Commerce site:

  • You must convince and demonstrate that there will be instant gratification or very fast results.
  • If your customers are feeling any potential pain, you must learn how to expose it.
  • You must be able to demonstrate what you can provide in a way that will make anybody watching be totally excited and want to say “WOW!”
  • You must be able to introduce a new way to do something or accomplish something. Bigger and bolder claims work, but not as good as bigger and bolder claims that come along with a new technique or way of doing things.
  • Show why the techniques that the customer is currently using are not as good as the results you will get by using your superior solution. Show them their frustrations, and how your product will fix them.
  • Use great call to action to get them to “Order Now”.
  • Tell them why they shouldn’t wait any longer by providing advantages to why it would be a better idea to order right away.
  • Have a great money-back guarantee that will provide them with a sense of security.
  • Use testimonials to show that your product works and to once again get your potential customers to “wow” about the results.

Even though Billy Mays and other men like him did this on TV, there is no reason why you cannot apply the same characteristics to your writing style. Selling something to somebody is easier when you know what makes people tick and what makes them want to buy. Two-minute infomercials work because of tactics like these, and you as an online business owner should be able to do the same thing within all of your article writing. There is no need to “re-invent the wheel.” These methods are proven and they work! Just as Billy Mays proved.
